Sunderland will be looking to offload deadwood before the conclusion of the transfer window.

Sunderland have already gone above and beyond expectations so far in the 2024/25 Championship season, as whilst they are just three games in, they are already showing incredibly promising signs.

The 1-0 win at home against Burnley was a real statement for Regis Le Bris’ side as they looked to fare well without the talents of Jack Clarke, who has now moved on to Premier League side Ipswich Town.

Le Bris has managed to get the best out of a similar-looking squad to last season that ended in poor fashion under both Michael Beale and Mike Dodds, and it has been a real breath of fresh air to see the younger players start to show character in their performances, and as a result look more competent on the pitch at this level.

However, reaching the business end of the transfer window has brought up the necessity of offloading players, with some sticking out as clear contenders that should be moved on by Kristjaan Speakman.

Luis Hemir

Luis Hemir got off to a decent start in pre-season before the start of the 2024/25 campaign, however Eliezer Mayenda managed to get ahead of the Portuguese youngster in the pecking order, and as a result has left him surplus to requirements.

For the sake of his development and career, a permanent transfer would be the most ideal for Hemir, who just wasn’t able to kick on at Championship level last season, and with the Black Cats continuously looking at bringing another striker into the side, it will be likely that the 21-year-old attacker will fall further down the pecking order.

Timothee Pembele

French full-back Timothee Pembele is another player that is likely starting at a season with very little game time, and as a result, it would be beneficial for both the player and the club if a move was sanctioned to see the former PSG defender move on.

The defender clearly has talents, which he showcased for Bordeaux in Ligue 1, but he just hasn’t managed to kick on in Wearside, and as a result, any move for Pembele should truthfully be a permanent one, as Sunderland could still receive a decent bid for him.

Nazariy Rusyn

The Ukranian is also another attacker that just hasn’t managed to make an impact at the Stadium of Light, although injuries certainly haven’t gone in his favour.

When playing in Ukraine, he was also utilised as a left-winger, something that could see him play at his best, especially following the departure of Clarke, as he certainly wouldn’t be getting any starts at striker with Mayenda being on form.

However, if Le Bris is unwilling to take the risk of playing Nazariy Rusyn in an alternative position, he should likely be moved on at this point on a permanent basis.
