Sunderland have option to recall Matty Young amid incredible Salford City loan spell

Sunderland loaned out young goalkeeper Matty Young in the summer to League Two outfit Salford City, where he initially struggled to cement his spot in the starting line up.

However, the Black Cats youngster has been handed a run of games recently, six to be exact, where he has incredibly kept five clean sheets in the fourth tier.

At 18-years-of-age, he has shown plenty of promise to be a top prospect at the club, and it could be a case that his development towards first-team football at Sunderland is fast-tracked if Patterson was to leave the club on a permanent deal, to which the Black Cats could act proactively and recall the in-form gem.

Matty Young will be provided with all the necessary tools to thrive on Wearside

The Sunderland youngster currently finds himself in top form in-between the sticks, and whilst some might suggest that the jump in league level might be too much for the 18-year-old, he would certainly have all the tools to succeed on his return.

Firstly, he would have Simon Moore as a mentor to rely upon, who has plenty of experience at Championship level, and would undoubtedly provide lots of wealth in the form of his knowledge of the league.

Alongside this, there aren’t many better coaches at Championship level that are able to nurture their talents like Le Bris has been able to do since he arrived this summer, as shown by the development of Rigg, Bellingham and Mundle, alongside many others that have come on leaps and bounds in the last few months.

Ultimately, it would be a challenge, and certainly a risk for Le Bris to entrust a youngster who has been playing at League Two level, but it is far from a bad alternative for Sunderland to opt for if Patterson did move on to pastures new.
