One Sunderland star is unsurprisingly gaining attention from Premier League clubs this January.

Off the pitch, Sunderland will be preparing for a long winded fight in the upcoming January transfer window, and that will be in regards to the Black Cats attempting to keep hold of their key players amid their current promotion push.

With Regis Le Bris’ side currently sitting comfortably in fourth position in the Championship, six points ahead of Blackburn Rovers behind them, they are very much in a battle for the automatic spots, which will mean having to fend off interest for their top players.

Jobe Bellingham is one key man who has unsurprisingly attracted the attention of Premier League and European sides, whilst fellow midfielder Chris Rigg is also making his name known at just 17-years-old.

As well as Le Bris’ two key midfielders, another key man has caught the eyes of Tottenham Hotspur.

Sunderland ace Anthony Patterson considered by Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur

Sunderland shot-stopper Anthony Patterson has been in fine form recently, with him proving pivotal in the crucial 2-1 victory against Norwich City recently.

The goalkeeper has conceded just 15 goals in 17 appearances, whilst managing to notch a total of seven clean sheets in the Championship, meaning that it comes no surprise that Premier League sides are interested in his services.

Patterson is reportedly being ‘considered’ by Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur this January, who is one of their options in-between the sticks, as well as fellow EFL shot-stoppers James Trafford and Sheffield Wednesday’s Pierce Charles, per Darren Witcoop on X.

Regis Le Bris can not afford to lose Anthony Patterson under any circumstances…yet

When looking at the current Sunderland squad, some players stand out as being ones that simply can not be replaced, and certainly not in the same window that they depart.

Patterson is certainly one that Sunderland should be fighting until the very end to retain past January, and it would seriously hamper their promotion hopes if he was to move on.

However, as for long term options, the departure of Patterson would not be massively damaging as a result of the current crop of young goalkeepers waiting in the wings, including Matty Young, who is currently showing his powers in a League Two spell with Salford City.

It would by no means be the end of the world if Patterson was let go in the summer, however, there is simply no underestimating how damaging a January sale would be.
