Deadline day has proven typically crazy for Sunderland, who are in talks with Brighton over the possible sale of Tommy Watson.
Tommy Watson looks as though he’s leaving Sunderland. The Black Cats academy man is heading to Brighton to see through his deal, but Sunderland want a parting gift.
As well as a healthy transfer fee, rumoured to be north of £12million, Sunderland want Simon Adingra in return.
The Brighton man is wanted on loan for the rest of the season as a direct replacement for Watson should he make the move to the AMEX Stadium.

Brighton tipped to recall Facundo Buonanotte amid Tommy Watson links
Elsewhere in the Premier League, it’s being reported that Brighton could recall Facundo Buonanotte from Leicester City, in news that may well be of interest to Sunderland.
An attacking midfielder and winger, the former Rosario man has scored four and assisted twice in 20 Premier League games on loan at Leicester City in the Premier League this season.
Adingra meanwhile has played a fairly active role at Brighton in 2024/25, with 16 Premier League appearances to his name, with two goals and one assist as well.
Could Facundo Buonanotte really be on his way to Sunderland?
At this moment, it’s Adingra who Sunderland want. But Brighton potentially recalling Buonanotte amid their pursuit of Watson, and Sunderland’s request for a loan player in return, seems like very convenient timing.
Although there has been reported that Chelsea want to sign Buonanotte and so that seems like the more probable outcome for the 20-year-old on deadline day.
Still, stranger things have happened on deadline. Buonanotte moving to Sunderland as part of the Watson deal certainly isn’t beyond the realms of possibility.
