Forgotten Sunderland ace who tallied 39 games in 23/24 must be wondering why Regis Le Bris kept him

One Sunderland man must be confused why he was kept at the club after not being handed a minute so far.

Regis Le Bris’ decisions surrounding his team lineups have been more-than consistent up until this point, and there is certainly no massive need for the Sunderland boss to tinker with his side if it isn’t broken.

As a result, the forward line for the Black Cats has consistently seen both Romaine Mundle and Patrick Roberts utilised on either flank, where they have thrived and shown massive signs of improvement in comparison to the lacklustre 2023/24 Championship season.

The striker options for Sunderland have also been massively bolstered with Eliezer Mayenda and Wilson Isidor, and the latter has been getting the share of game time recently due to the Spaniard’s untimely injury. Whilst the French attacker wasn’t quite on his top form against Queens Park Rangers, he will still likely retain his spot leading the line next time out against Preston North End.

Due to the current immovable attack at Sunderland, there will be one under-utilised man who will be assuming that his time in the squad will never arrive.

Abdoullah Ba will be wondering why he is still at Sunderland after not being utilised this season

Sunderland winger Abdoullah Ba was an ever-present figure in the 2023/24 Championship season, where he notched 39 appearances for the side. He even popped up with seven goal contributions in the league.

However, he has not even been considered with any game time in the Championship up until this stage of the 2024/25 campaign, and he will without a doubt be wondering why Le Bris kept him at the club this summer.

He has only been named on the bench on five occasions, but has not been called upon up until this point.

Abdoullah Ba must be handed loan move in January to bolster his development

After being a decent option for Sunderland in the previous two seasons, it is clear that Le Bris doesn’t regard the Frenchman as one of his top assets in regards to attacking quality.

As a result, for the sanctity of his own career and development, the winger, who is still just 21-years-old, should be handed a loan spell elsewhere, where his game time won’t be hindered.

He without a doubt showed signs of being a decent and tricky winger when playing at his top level, and he certainly has the skills to build on, and could easily come back after a successful spell elsewhere and be a decent level Championship winger.
