‘Wonderful’… Luke O’Nien hails one Sunderland signing that has already produced ‘magic’

Sunderland club captain Luke O’Nien has heaped praise on one of the Black Cats’ key signings.

The Black Cats went about the January transfer window rather sensibly, placing priority in keeping their top stars in order to maintain their promotion push.

Despite late interest in 18-year-old gem Tommy Watson, with Brighton coming close to signing the Sunderland winger on deadline day, Regis Le Bris and Kristjaan Speakman kept hold of their key man, who should return from injury in the coming weeks.

As well as managing departures sensibly, Sunderland’s arrivals were limited in quantity, but certainly not in regards to ambition.

The January window saw Sunderland notably bring in Liverpool loanee Jayden Danns on deadline day, as well as Enzo Le Fee on loan from Roma earlier on in the window. Sunderland star Luke O’Nien has heaped praise on the latter for his impact since joining the club in early January.

Sunderland club captain Luke O’Nien praises ‘fantastic’ Enzo Le Fee alongside fellow attacker

French midfielder Le Fee arrived on Wearside with plenty of promise, with his experience at Roma and FC Lorient amongst others sparking much anticipation to see him in action, and he has lived up to expectation.

Despite playing out of position on the left flank because of Sunderland’s lack of depth in that area, the Frenchman has shone by adding that extra shade of quality to the side’s playmaking, with him notably displaying this in the away win at Middlesbrough.

Long-standing Black Cats defender O’Nien has displayed his thoughts towards the 24-year-old playmaker, per Sunderland Echo, where he said: “He’s a wonderful player and as a human being as well.

“The way he’s added to the group on and off the pitch has been fantastic. I really enjoy working with him on and off the pitch. He makes me a better player and the team better.

“He’s a wonderful addition and has the support of probably the best left back in the league. Then we have Pat Roberts on the other side who produces magic. We have an exciting team. He’s integrated in the team really well and there’s more to come from him as well.”

Enzo Le Fee signing bodes well for future Black Cats transfer windows

The signing of Le Fee at the start of the January transfer window certainly took many by surprise, with Sunderland showing their ambition early on.

For many outsiders, this may seem to be a bit of an outlier in regards to Sunderland’s transfer business, but it could bode well for Speakman as this arrival puts the Black Cats on the map in regards to being an attractive location for high-profile players.

Whether Le Bris’ side do achieve promotion this season or not, this campaign will have its long term impacts on the club’s reputation, and there will be plenty of Le Fee-esque signings waiting for Sunderland in the future.
