Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil said he ‘didn’t realise’ just how good teammate Jack Clarke was in setting up Neil’s goal in the win over Norwich.
The Black Cats went a goal down when Hwang Ui-Jo scored to put the canaries ahead. Trai Hume then scored his first goal of the season to level.
Sunderland then took the lead on the stroke of half time through Neil, with Clarke skipping past three or four players before putting it on a plate for Neil to poke home.
Clarke himself finished the goal scoring by putting a penalty away with ten minutes to go, ending Sunderland’s three game losing run as they were 3-1 victors.
Dan Neil on winger’s trickery

Neil spoke to the Northern Echo after the game, saying that he was too busy making his run to notice just how good Clarke was in setting up his goal.
“I think my finish for the goal was good, but at the time, I didn’t realise how good Jack’s feet were for the goal because I was too busy scanning to see where I was on the pitch.
“I didn’t realise he beat three or four men and slid a lovely ball through so I’ll give Clarkey a bit of credit for that one!”
Clarke showing his quality
Clarke has been in excellent form this season, currently standing at the top scorer in the Championship with nine goals, already equalling his tally from last season.
His play to set Neil up for his goal was excellent, just showing how good his dribbling ability is.
The 22-year-old will be looking to hit double figures for the first time in his career when they head to Swansea City on Saturday afternoon.
