Sunderland’s 97-touch ace who made 7 tackles was as good as Jack Clarke V Norwich

Sunderland ended their losing streak on Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 win over Norwich City, with Trai Hume starring.

The Black Cats had lost their previous three games, only scoring once whilst conceding seven.

It did look like Sunderland would be heading for a fourth straight defeat when Norwich striker Hwang Ui-Jo scored in the 23rd minute to give the Canaries an early lead.

14 minutes later though Sunderland started their comeback, with Hume scoring from the edge of the area, with some help from a deflection off Shane Duffy.

Jack Clarke’s tricky feet caused problems for Norwich all day, as he took on a few players before putting it in a plate for Dan Neil to give Sunderland the lead just before half-time.

Clarke was then tripped in the box as he charged through the middle in the 80th minute, with the 22-year-old then scoring the resulting ownelay to seal the three points for Sunderland.

Whilst Clarke will take all the plaudits, Trai Hume also stood out.

The 21-year-old starred at right-back on Saturday afternoon, getting his first goal of the season.

He has played in every Championship game for the Black Cats this season, as he has become a regular.

On SofaScore, Hume was given an 8.0 rating.

Despite scoring, it was defensively where the £3k-a-week ace was at his best.

He made seven tackles during the game, winning 11 duels, being a thorn in Norwich’s left hand side, leaving Jonathan Rowe with little to no joy. He also made 97 touches.

Hopefully the Northern Irish international will continue his fine form as Sunderland look to kick on after a blip recently.
