The transfer window may be closed now, but Sunderland can expect three players to return from injury very soon, and all of them will feel like new signings.

Sunderland ended the window with two new signings in Enzo Le Fee and Jayden Danns, plus the permanent signing of Wilson Isidor.

However, the Black Cats are also waiting for some big names to come back from long-term injuries. Indeed, some of the players absent right now could well transform the Sunderland squad in many ways.

Now, Regis Le Bris has some news on those absentees, and it’s excellent news for any Sunderland fans.

Tommy Watson, Romaine Mundle, and Alan Browne will all be back within a week

Speaking ahead of the upcoming fixture against Watford this weekend, Le Bris was asked by the press (via the Sunderland YouTube channel) about the injuries in the squad and when we can expect them to come back, and it all sounds positive.

“They are gradually returning,” he said. “Alan Browne is available and is now back in full training. We hope to have Romaine Mundle back on the grass and training by the end of this week, and Tommy Watson will be back next week.”

That’s not all, with Le Bris stating Jenson Seelt is now “ready to play, too”. The Sunderland manager suggested this could all work out brilliantly for the team, adding, “they’re all back at the perfect time, we’ll see.”

In addition, Le Bris revealed the injured Jayden Danns is likely to be out for just two weeks. The Liverpool loanee had a back injury picked up on his medical upon joining Sunderland.

Romaine Mundle and Tommy Watson will change the game for Sunderland

While Mundle and Watson won’t make the lineup for the Watford game, the fact those two in particular are so close to a comeback is incredibly good news for Sunderland, and could end up being the difference for them this season.

For months now, Sunderland have persevered without a natural left winger, so to have two of them back, and at the quality that Mundle and Watson are, will be a huge lift and will completely change the dynamic for Le Bris’ system.

Le Bris will soon be able to select his ultimate best Sunderland XI, and with someone to fill that left wing role, we will finally get to see Enzo Le Fee in a central role where he can fully realise his massive potential.

It’s a scary thought to consider that Sunderland can get better, and this could spell trouble for the teams above them in the Championship table.
