Regis Le Bris appears to have already made one key decision over Sunderland’s new signing Wilson Isidor.
The Black Cats made four signings in the dying hours of the summer transfer window, with Regis Le Bris’ side fully taking shape to hopefully continue their brilliant start to the 2024/25 Championship season.
Sunderland managed to bring in the assured abilities of Chris Mepham on loan, who will certainly be able to perform at Championship level after 89 appearances at this level, which is made even better by a further 61 appearances in the Premier League for Bournemouth.
The Black Cats also brought in Milan Aleksic for £3.1million from Radnicki 1923 and Ahmed Abdullahi on a permanent deal from KAA Gent, whilst Silas Abdul Samed joined on loan from Lens.
Although the latter three players are unproven in English football, Isidor performed brilliantly for Sunderland U21’s, and it has made Le Bris plans clear for the attacker.

Regis Le Bris makes bold call over Wilson Isidor’s position after Sunderland U21 performance
Sunderland U21’s were unfortunately undone against Liverpool as they were defeated 3-2, however it gave an opportunity for new Sunderland signing Isidor to showcase his abilities on the pitch in red & white.
Whilst it was brilliant to see that the attacker had a ‘dangerous’ performance, and was ‘a real handful’, per Sunderland Echo, it was clear that Isidor was utilised out wide ‘on the left wing’, as opposed to playing as a striker.
There was speculation following the signing of the French forward as to where he would fit in to Le Bris’ plans, and although he has notched 68 senior appearances as a striker in his career, as opposed to 33 on the left flank, it is looking continuously likely that the new Sunderland man will not lead the line.

Regis Le Bris call could be crucial for one Sunderland striker
With Isidor’s performance against Liverpool U21s seemingly suggesting that Le Bris will shift the new signing out wide when he makes his mark for the first team, it will mean that Eliezer Mayenda will likely keep his place in the side following his brilliant start to the 2024/25 season.
The Spanish forward topped off what has been an absolutely brilliant start to the 2024/25 season against Portsmouth, as he set up two of the goals in Sunderland’s 3-1 victory on the road.
Coming off the back of a widely unsuccessful loan spell at Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership, as well as not being able to cement his place in the squad at the start of the 2023/24 season, Mayenda was certainly an outside-favourite to be leading the line for Sunderland.
However, every bit of game time that he has been awarded with so far this campaign has most certainly been deserved, and it is brilliant to see Le Bris recognising this by looking to utilise Isidor as a left-winger.
