Sunderland ace Matty Young has spoken about the heavy defeat suffered with Salford against Man City.
Sunderland goalkeeper Matty Young has come on leaps and bounds so far in the 2024/25 season.
Despite initially struggling to cement his place in the Salford City side managed by Karl Robinson, he has improved massively for the League Two side, spectacularly conceding just one goal in eight league games.
As a result of his efforts, the Black Cats shot-stopper was awarded with a start against Manchester City in the 3rd round of the FA Cup, a game that didn’t quite see him continue his fabulous streak of clean sheets.
The defeat ended with Young conceding eight against the Premier League reigning champions, however, he has seen the optimistic side after his recent message.

Sunderland youngster Matty Young pens ‘proud’ message following Man City defeat
It was a tough defeat for Young to face so early on in his career, and conceding eight goals away against Premier League opposition at 18-years-old can certainly be difficult to handle.
However, the Sunderland loanee has succeeded in looking to pick himself up and the team, and see the positives in the game where they had to come up against a Premier League side benefitting from a huge gulf in class in their ranks.
The Sunderland goalkeeper, after the defeat, put out a message via X, where he said: “Proud of the team’s effort in this competition, plenty to take from against tough opposition and full focus on the league now.”

Matty Young class and determination will show after bouncing back from Man City defeat
It is difficult for any player to suffer such a heavy defeat on the big stage, but not many would have had to at such a young age like the Sunderland loanee.
In what would have been a mentally challenging 90 minutes on the pitch, the game will no doubt have a massive impact on Young in the long term, and all positive.
Coming up against Premier League opposition, whilst difficult, will give him confidence in future games, as well as the determination to bounce back from the loss.
The goalkeeper has already shown such brilliance on loan at Salford City, and whilst the Man City defeat by no means defines his season, he will need to show his class and determination to the max in order to put the game behind him and focus on the positives he can take away from it.
