One Black Cats attacker is set for a move down south to a fellow Championship team this January.

Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris is looking to mould his squad for their promotion push in the January transfer window.

As well as incomings, which have seen Enzo Le Fee come through the door in a very ambitious loan deal, alongside Sunderland being linked to the likes of Tom Cannon and Ben Brereton Diaz, there is also likely to be some departures sanctioned.

At this stage, Sunderland attacker Nazariy Rusyn looks to be on his way out from the Stadium of Light, and it looks likely that he could be joined by another attacker, whose time on Wearside looks to be up after less than four months.

Sunderland attacker Aaron Connolly set for Millwall move after just four months

Back in September, Kristjaan Speakman looked to boost the attacking depth with the arrival of Aaron Connolly on a free transfer.

Whilst on the surface it looked as though the deal was too good to be true in regards to getting a player that had previously performed at Championship level on a free deal, it hasn’t quite worked out for the Republic of Ireland international after he notched just one Championship goal.

As a result of the attacker dropping down the pecking order, he now looks set to move to fellow Championship side Millwall, per Roker Report.

Connolly featured for the Black Cats at the weekend against Stoke City in the FA Cup, but once again struggled to show much goalscoring presence as part of Le Bris’ side.

Aaron Connolly sale could be sign of positive news regarding incomings

It certainly is a shame to see Connolly’s move to Wearside not quite work out, especially given the potential that he had in earlier years for the likes of Brighton.

The silver lining to the move for the 24-year-old is the fact that it is certainly a sign that the cogs are turning behind the scenes in regards to Sunderland looking to bring in an attacker.

There is certainly no chance that Speakman would look to move on a player that he wasn’t confident in replacing in the coming days, especially given the positive position that Sunderland are currently in, and, as things stand, the Black Cats have already sounded out the potential attacking options in Cannon and Brereton Diaz.
