Regis Le Bris’ side got a seventh win on the board with a 1-0 victory at Hull City on Sunday, courtesy of a debated Wilson Isidor goal for Sunderland.
Luton Town meanwhile have struggled this season, following their relegation from the Premier League last time round.
Rob Edwards’ side currently sit in 17th place of the Championship table but ended a run of three games without a win last time out, thumping neighbours Watford 3-0 at home.
Le Bris could now become the first Sunderland manager since Roy Keane to win at Luton Town, with the Black Cats last doing so on the final day of the 2006/07 as they sealed the second tier title with a 5-0 win.

Sunderland still have a few injuries in their first-team squad, with some niggling ongoing injuries.
Dan Ballard and Eliezer Mayenda missed Sunderland against Hull but Le Bris suggested that the pair could return at some point this week.
Speaking to the press on Wednesday though, Le Bris revealed that the pair are not available for the trip to Luton town.
Other names set to miss out are the longer-term absentees in Ian Poveda, Aji Alese, Jenson Seelt, and Niall Huggins, who may not return for Sunderland until 2025.
Speaking before the Hull game, Le Bris said that deadline day signings Salis Abdul Samed and Ahmed Abdullahi remain sidelined for a while longer.

On Sunday, Sunderland new boy Aaron Connolly made an emotional debut against his former club.
There’s been a lot of excitement surrounding the 24-year-old after his impressive stint with the Sunderland U21s before his debut.
Speaking on Tuesday, Le Bris had this to say on his striking options: “With Aaron now we have another one and we have younger players who need to improve with a few minutes.
“Eliezer could be possible because he did very well during the first part of the season and Aaron is another option.”
Luton Town team news latest ahead of Sunderland
The Hatters don’t appear to be too blighted by injury right now. But they do seem to have the bulk of their injuries concentrated in defence.
Defenders Mads Andersen, Ruell Walters, Teden Mengi, and Amari’i Bell all look set to miss out, whilst defender Daiki Hashioka is in contention to make his first start of the season after making his first appearance of the season in the game against Watford.
Liam Walsh serves the third of a three-game suspension against the Black Cats.
