He may be 34-years-old now, but Jordan Henderson is showing no signs of slowing down, and he’s about to embark on a new chapter in his career.

The former Sunderland man has had his share of highs and lows over the last few years, leaving behind glory at Liverpool for a much-maligned move to Saudi Arabia.

Jordan Henderson soon moved on from there, though, joining Ajax in what has been a relatively successful switch for the last year.

His future has been up in the air for a while now amid contract rumours and exit speculation, but it appears the Sunderland legend has now sealed his next transfer.

Jordan Henderson is on his way to Monaco soon

According to transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, Henderson is on the verge of signing for French outfit, AS Monaco.

Apparently, Monaco “are closing in” on an agreement to bring Henderson to France, in what would be a permanent switch with a contract until the summer of 2026.

Romano claims the deal is now “almost agreed” and promised one his trademark “here we go” seal of approval is on its way soon.

Ajax’s technical director, Alex Kroes, previously spoke about wanting to keep Henderson and how valuable he was as the club captain.

The finer details of the transfer have not been revealed yet, but with Henderson’s contract at Ajax not set to expire for another 18 months, one would assume the Dutch giants have managed to secure some kind of fee.

Will Jordan Henderson ever return to Sunderland?

Ever since Henderson took the step down from Liverpool, there has been a constant flow of speculation that he might return to the Stadium of Light one day.

Fans are eager to see Henderson back at Sunderland, but judging by the fact he is set to sign for a club in one of Europe’s top five leagues, who are competing in the Champions League, we may have to wait a while before we see him drop to the Championship.

If anything, it may be that Henderson never comes back to Sunderland, at least not as a player. But, the idea of him joining his beloved boyhood club as an ambassador, or perhaps even as part of the Sunderland coaching staff one day, is not beyond the realms of possibility at all.
