With Sunderland continuing to assert themselves as title challengers in the Championship, with every passing win, more and more attention will be put towards the January transfer window.
The January transfer window will no doubt play a significant role in shaping Sunderland’s fortunes in the Championship this season.
For Regis Le Bris, whilst he and his Sunderland side have enjoyed a very strong start to the new Championship campaign, it feels almost inevitable that this youthful first-team squad will eventually tire, and their inexperience will shine through.
Black Cats sporting director Kristjaan Speakman added experience during the summer transfer window, mainly with the addition of Alan Browne. Though more might be needed in January to ensure Sunderland have an arsenal capable of getting over the line.
One such addition that’s been rumoured is Jordan Henderson; the Sunderland academy graduate and former Liverpool captain is now playing at Ajax.

Ajax technical director weighs in on Jordan Henderson future amid Sunderland links
Sunderland have been linked with Henderson of late, amid apparent uncertainty over his future in the Netherlands.
Henderson, who reportedly earns £74k-a-week at Ajax, recently spoke out on his future amid his ongoing links to the Stadium of Light.
He said: “When my contract here expires, I will be 36 years old. Then I will see how I am physically and what Ajax wants. I may end my career here. It could very well be.”
Now, Ajax’s technical director Alex Kroes has given his thoughts on the matter. Kroes told Dutch outlet De Stentor: “I am very happy with Jordan as captain, both on and off the field. So we do not want to lose him.
“We assume that he will help us to continue the development that we are currently going through as a club and team.”

Ajax manager Francesco Farioli makes new comment on Jordan Henderson future
Former Sunderland manager target Francesco Farioli spoke on Henderson’s future earlier this month, sharing a somewhat vague stance on the 34-year-old.
Farioli previously said: “Having captained his team to a Champions League victory, I believe he can effectively communicate the essence of a winning mentality and a strong work ethic.
“There are many valuable ways in which he can make a significant contribution to a young team like ours.”
Also speaking to De Stentor, Farioli now has this to say on Henderson: “Jordan told me from day one that his head was with Ajax. And his dream is to get the club back to where it belongs.
“I don’t have to explain how important he is to me, so my desires seem clear to me.”
What has Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris said about Jordan Henderson
Speaking in a press conference earlier this month, Le Bris was also quizzed on the Henderson rumours, to which the Frenchman said the club has not held any internal discussions about the possibility of signing him in January.
Le Bris added: “He’s obviously a strong and famous player.
“At the minute, the transfer window is not open, so we can speak about many players but we don’t have the choice at the moment.”
Sunderland-born Henderson made his Black Cats debut in 2008, making 79 appearances in all competitions before his move to Anfield in 2011.
