Former Sunderland man and SAFC Live pundit Danny Collins has been discussing the win over Luton Town.
Sunderland beat Luton Town 2-1 on Wednesday night, leaving Hatters fans in despair after what was an enthralling match at Kenilworth Road.
Rob Edwards set his side out to bully and batter Sunderland, who despite their youth held on to half-time, then scoring twice in the second half through Chris Rigg and Romaine Mundle.
Edwards hailed Sunderland duo Rigg and Mundle after the game. Elsewhere, there was praise for Bournemouth loan man Chris Mepham.
Sunderland fans praised Mepham’s performance against Luton Town after the Welshman dominated the defence, particularly aerially.
He lead the way for defensive actions on the night, as well as clearances, in a game where the Sunderland penalty area was bombarded with long balls and set-pieces.
Sunderland’s chances of signing Mepham on a permanent deal have been played down for the time being.

Danny Collins hails Chris Mepham after Sunderland win at Luton Town
Perhaps unsurprisingly, SAFC Live pundit Danny Collins has named Mepham as his Man of the Match against Luton Town.
He said on the post-match show when asked who his Man of the Match is: “Same again for me, as I said Sunday, Chris Mepham.
“I don’t think you can argue it. I thought he was immense back there. Difficult for him. Won his headers. Right position. Right time again.”
Mepham shone for Sunderland against Hull City last weekend, helping the Black Cats massively as they claim a couple of important away wins in the space of a few days.
Up next is a return to the Stadium of Light to face Hull City.
Will Dan Ballard be available to play against Oxford United?
Mepham is starting games right now because of the injury to Dan Ballard. But Mepham’s fine form, and the fine form of Luke O’Nien, surely makes it difficult for Ballard to eventually get back in the side.
Speaking before the Luton Town game, Regis Le Bris revealed that Ballard wasn’t fit to feature.
Le Bris will speak to the press again this week ahead of the Oxford United game and it seems probable that Ballard can return to the matchday squad, having been on the brink of returning for the last couple of games.
But Ballard may be a benchwarmer for the net few weeks, with Mepham undroppable right now.
