After helping his team secure a landmark win over North East rivals Middlesbrough on Monday night, Wilson Isidor cemented his place in Sunderland folklore with his post-match antics.

It has been quite the month for Wilson Isidor. From two penalty misses against Burnley, to a bizarre disallowed goal versus Derby County, the Frenchman has had to overcome his fair share of adversity.

But, he’s managed to get himself on the scoresheet in the last two games, and over the weekend, Isidor’s loan deal became a permanent move to Sunderland.

It’s safe to say Black Cats fans adore the striker already, but thanks to his goal and celebrations at the final whistle, he’s quickly becoming a Sunderland legend.

Wilson Isidor dominates at the Riverside in historic Sunderland win

Not content with being one of the best Sunderland players on the pitch against Middlesbrough, Isidor then proceeded to celebrate wildly after the game, much to the delight of the travelling Mackems at the Riverside.

The moment was captured by Sky Sports, as Isidor ventured over to the away stand, took off his shirt, hung it on the corner flag and began to wave it aloft triumphantly.

The incredible celebration, which must surely have antagonised any of the Middlesbrough fans who stuck around after the game, echoed Graeme Souness’ highly controversial act of planting a Galatasaray flag in the middle of the Fenerbahce pitch after the 1996 Turkish Cup final.

Having helped Sunderland grab their first win at the Riverside in 20 years, Isidor can expect adoration from the Black Cats fans for many years to come now, and it would seem that feeling goes both ways.

Sunderland fans love Wilson Isidor more and more each week

After signing for Sunderland on a permanent basis, Isidor admitted he feels ‘at home’ on Wearside, and played up the connection he has with the fans at the club.

That was Isidor’s tenth goal of the season, and there is no denying that his contributions are a major factor in helping Sunderland push for promotion this term.

But, as any football fan will attest, earning the love of the supporters is about far more than just goals. It is passion, commitment, work rate, and that unrelenting desire to improve and succeed; attributes that Isidor has in abundance.

If he keeps up this level of performance and goalscoring, twinned with his energy and love for the club, Isidor will certainly become a player that Sunderland fans never forget. Hopefully, come next season, he gets to show what he is capable of in the Premier League, too.
