One Sunderland player was praised by fans following the victory against Millwall.

This weekend saw Sunderland beat Millwall at home, with Trai Hume bagging the winner.

Despite a rather controversial moment that saw Luke O’Nien miss a penalty, whilst Wilson Isidor wasn’t quite on form for Sunderland, there were still plenty of positives as Regis Le Bris’ injury-ridden side picked up all three points.

Several star performers included Sunderland winger Patrick Roberts, putting in an ‘outstanding’ showing, whilst Alan Browne did brilliantly as a make-shift right-back.

There was another player that several Sunderland fans took to social media to praise following the game, and he did exceptionally well, knowing that he had been on a previously rocky run of performances.

Sunderland fans react to Chris Mepham performance vs Millwall

Despite, several injuries depleting the Black Cats side, Sunderland still had their core centre-backs in the team, and that was O’Nien and Chris Mepham, the latter of which was coming into the game following a rather difficult run of performances.

Thankfully, Mepham looked rejuvenated following the international break and was back to his best, helping Sunderland towards clinching a crucial three points and clean sheet.

Fans were full of praise for the Welshman as well, with several writing on X that ‘Chris Mepham was solid’, and that ‘he’s had a difficult few games but was good today’.

Another fan believed that Sunderland ‘never really looked like conceding, thought Mepham was solid really’. One even believed that the ‘massive performance’ on his own was enough to ‘get him signed’, and that was backed up by a fellow supporter who suggested the Welshman, alongside Hume, were ‘the best two’.

The best way to sum up the centre-back’s performance is from the words of Jordan Ransey on X, who simply said: “Chris Mepham what a player.”

Chris Mepham experience could lead Black Cats to play-off glory

It was abruptly clear that Sunderland had the bounce back from the international break, prior to which their form was rather streaky, and understandably didn’t fill many Black Cats fans with confidence going into the business end of the season.

Thankfully, Mepham was able to play a crucial role in ensuring that Sunderland put in a top showing against a gritty Millwall side, and that will hopefully hold them in good stead for the final run-in of the season.

With play-offs all-but confirmed, Sunderland must ensure they approach it with high spirits and in good form, and if they can replicate that performance against Millwall, they will certainly have a good chance.
