It didn’t take long for Wilson Isidor to become a fan favourite at Sunderland, maybe even a cult hero among some. On Saturday, he got a much-needed goal after a tough period for the Frenchman.

The last week or so has been an eventful one for Sunderland striker Wilson Isidor. He was in headlines for his double penalty miss against Burnley and then for his ghost goal against Derby County in midweek.

If anybody needed a goal, and one that stood, it was the Frenchman. Then on Saturday, he scored what looked like the winning goal in Sunderland’s Championship clash against Plymouth Argyle.

It was another one for his collection of stunning goals, curling the ball into the corner on the half volley as Sunderland took the 2-1 lead, before throwing it away in injury time and drawing 2-2.

There’s a lot of frustration after that draw. Sunderland fans have criticised Anthony Patterson among others, though Isidor had a decent enough game. He didn’t see a whole lot of the ball but took his goal well and put in the yards.

Wilson Isidor’s classy remarks after Sunderland 2-2 Plymouth Argyle

Isidor is well-liked among Sunderland fans for a number of reasons. He scores goals, and some incredible ones too, and he also has a genuine love and care for the club. That care was again evident after the draw against Plymouth.

Speaking to the club, Isidor was asked how he felt about scoring and finally getting back on the scoresheet after that Burnley game, and then the Derby County game.

The 24-year-old said: “I’m happy to score, but today I don’t care. It’s not the winning goal. I prefer to don’t score and win this game. So thanks for the fans for the support. Thanks for the fans to be every time here. Sorry we didn’t bring you the win today.”

Sunderland set to make Wilson Isidor transfer decision

Isidor joined on loan from Zenit during the summer transfer window. At the time, it was reported that Sunderland have a £3.5million option to buy Isidor from the Russian club.

Then earlier in this January transfer window, it was revealed that Sunderland wat to buy Isidor, but that the asking price may be slightly too high for them right now.

If Isidor keeps on scoring then he might force Sunderland into a big purchase: he’s got all the trademark qualities of a modern day striker with his pace and power, and his incredible finishing too.

Whether promoted or not, Isidor would be a great summer signing for the Black Cats.
