All eyes will be on the Championship on Monday night as even the most neutral fan will surely want to watch Leeds United vs Sunderland, a game that will affect the outcome of the promotion race one way or another.

Sunderland have defied all expectations this season. With just 14 games left to go (including Monday’s visit to Leeds), the Black Cats remain firmly in the promotion race.

Most would agree Regis Le Bris’ side are the underdogs in that four-way battle for the top two, but either way, it’s hard to deny that Sunderland have had a successful season regardless of where they end up in the final league table.

Coming off the back of a solid win over struggling Luton Town, the Mackems will now need to raise their game and then some as they take on a Leeds United side who have looked far too good for this division all season.

If you’re wanting to watch Leeds United vs Sunderland, we’ve got all the details you need, plus information on injuries for the two teams, a look at their head-to-head record, and some score predictions, too.

Leeds and Sunderland injury news

We knew last week that three players were returning to training for Sunderland, with Alan Browne at the head of the queue, closely followed by Romaine Mundle and Tommy Watson.

Browne turned out for the Under-21 team last week, while Mundle has been confirmed to be ready to go on Monday night by Le Bris.

Watson and the recently signed Jayden Danns are unlikely to make the matchday squad for the trip to Leeds. The pair are still probably a week away from being ready for action.

Check out our predicted Sunderland lineup for how we expect these developments to impact Le Bris’ team selection.

For Leeds, Patrick Bamford remains out with a hamstring injury. Meanwhile, Pascal Struijk will be touch-and-go, also with a hamstring issue.

Leeds vs Sunderland head-to-head record

As per 11v11.com, the historical head-to-head between these two sleeping giants sees Leeds having a slight advantage, with 40 wins to Sunderland’s 35, and 21 draws to boot.

However, rather encouragingly, Sunderland are unbeaten against Leeds in their last four meetings. The two sides drew 2-2 earlier this season at the Stadium of Light, with Chris Rigg opening the scores early on, before a Leeds fightback had the home side on the ropes. An injury-time Junior Firpo own goal levelled the game and earned Sunderland a vital point.

You have to go back to August 2017 for Leeds’ last victory over the Black Cats, a 2-0 win on Wearside in the league.

Unbelievably, Sunderland have not been beaten at Elland Road since 2002, winning three games there and drawing two. Does this bode well for a Sunderland win, or does it motivate Leeds to set the record straight? Only time will tell.

Leeds vs Sunderland prediction

Given the relentless nature of Leeds this season, you’d have to be happy with a point from this one as a Sunderland fan. Away at Elland Road, it will not be easy at all, and the home side will be all-out attack.

It’s not impossible to envisage a big, convincing Leeds win, but we’ll try and be positive and predict a thrilling 2-2 draw, with both teams putting on a show for spectators.

Meanwhile, Gary Bennett believes Sunderland can threaten Leeds. He pinpointed the talents of Enzo Le Fee, Wilson Isidor, and Patrick Roberts as key factors. However, he did admit the Yorkshire outfit are the ‘best team’ in the whole league.

As for specific score predictions for the game, Sam Parkin believes we’re set for a ‘colossal’ match between two great sides. He suggested Leeds will grab a 2-1 win after a ‘grandstand finish’.
