A Sunderland player could seal his summer transfer exit ‘this week’, it has been reported.

Sunderland are making changes to their first-team squad ahead of the 2024/25 Championship season.

The new campaign gets underway in August and the Black Cats open their season with a trip to Cardiff City on August 10th, with their first home game of the season being a repeat of their last game of the 2023/24 campaign; against Sheffield Wednesday.

Before then, Sunderland fans and indeed sporting director Kristjaan Speakman and head coach Regis Le Bris will hope to see several more new players arrive at the Stadium of Light.

So far this summer, free agent pair Simon Moore and Alan Browne have joined, with more expected in the near future.

There could also be a fair few player exits at Sunderland before the start of the new season; there’s some big profile exits on the cards but also some less-so, with one being Matty Young’s proposed loan exit.

Sunderland gem Matty Young tipped to seal Salford City loan move

Sunderland’s young goalkeeper Young has been linked with a loan move to League Two Salford City ahead of the 2024/25 season.

It comes after the England U18 man’s impressive loan spell with Darlington last season which earned the 17-year-old high praise.

Now tipped to join Salford City on loan, journalist James Copley has revealed on X that Young’s move to the club should go through ‘this week barring any last-minute hitches’.

The news of Young’s proposed loan exit comes after reports that Blondy Nna Noukeu has been offered a contract at Sunderland following an impressive trial period.

The released former Stoke City man featured in the pre-season friendly win over South Shields on Saturday.

What next for Matty Young ahead of Sunderland loan exit

Young certainly looks like a real prospect for Sunderland, and a League Two loan move at 17, where he’ll be fighting for the no.1 spot, is an exciting next move for him.

He appears to be on the same career path as Sunderland’s current no.1 Anthony Patterson who enjoyed lower league loan spells before getting his chance at Sunderland, having not looked back since.

And with Patterson perhaps likely to leave Sunderland either this summer or in the years to come, Young could be readying himself for the no.1 jersey at the club.

If he can impress with Salford next season then he could be ushered in at Sunderland sooner than expected, depending of course what happens with Patterson.
