Sunderland have endured a very subdued January transfer window so far. But as we enter the final two weeks of the window, the rumour mill appears to be turning.
The mood among Sunderland supporters right now is not great.
Michael Beale’s recent appointment has been deemed a very underwhelming one with the club having dropped down into 7th place of the table; Beale has taken seven points from a possible 15 so far.
And matters on the transfer front don’t appear too rosy either.
Sunderland remain in desperate need of a striker, as they have done since their return to the Championship in 2022, but none have signed so far this month.

Yann M’Vila linked with shock return
Beale could make a former Sunderland favourite his first signing at the Stadium of Light, with reports coming out of Europe suggesting that the Black Cats want Yann M’Vila.
The 22-cap Frenchman, now 33 years old, remains a free agent after concluding a three-year spell at Olympiacos in the summer. Though he could return to Wearside this month, more than seven years after his initial loan spell from Rubin Kazan.
Sunderland eyeing Leicester City full-back Luke Thomas
Left-back options are thin in the ground right now with Niall Huggins and Dennis Cirkin both sidelined.
And now, Sunderland Nation claim that the Black Cats are weighing up a potential loan swoop for Leicester City’s Luke Thomas.
The 22-year-old spent the first half of this season on loan at Sheffield United where he featured 12 times in the Premier League.
Amad Diallo return touted
More than half-a-year since Amad Diallo left Sunderland, he remains a hot talking point among fans.
There’s ongoing rumours that he could be loaned out this month. It was reported that Middlesbrough were leading the race, before Diallo made clear himself that the Boro rumour was untrue, and that if he were to leave on loan, it would be to Sunderland.
Whilst Fabrizio Romano says that Diallo doesn’t intend on leaving Manchester United this month, Beale has made it clear that he’d love the Ivorian to join on loan.
Sunderland lodge bid for Kieffer Moore
One striker linked with a potential move to Sunderland this month is Kieffer Moore.
The Welshman doesn’t fit the club’s usual transfer strategy, but the 40-cap Wales star looks like a strong potential addition, and now it’s been revealed that the Black Cats have made a bid for him.
Reports say say that Sunderland along with title-challengers Ipswich Town have both submitted loan bids for the 31-year-old.
