Sunderland are really turning heads in this January transfer window. First was the loan signing of Enzo Le Fee from Roma, and now it looks like the Black Cats are making a huge push for Tom Cannon.

Tom Cannon is a wanted man at the top of the Championship table with both Sheffield United and Sunderland battling hard to sign the Leicester City striker, who’s shone on loan at Stoke City this season.

On Tuesday, it was reported that Sheffield United were ready to bid £7million for Cannon in this January window. Now though, it’s been revealed that Sunderland will pay £13million for Cannon, so long as it’s in the event of promotion next season.

The race for his signature is really heating up. But Cannon isn’t the only one who might be joining Enzo Le Fee on Wearside before the February 3rd transfer deadline.

There’s a growing list of players mentioned alongside a winter move to the Stadium of Light and another exciting name mentioned is Aston Villa youngster Louie Barry, who’s been recalled from an impressive loan spell with Stockport County where he scored 15 League One goals in 23 games.

Louie Barry latest as Aston Villa weigh up decision

Sunderland are one of a number of teams linked with a loan move for Barry. But Aston Villa are deciding whether or not to sell the former Barcelona youngster, or to simply send him back out on loan for the second half of the season.

It’s been claimed that Villa want just £7million for Barry. But with Sunderland having signed Le Fee and now putting money on the table for Cannon, a £7million pursuit of Barry might already be out of the question for the Black Cats.

The latest on Barry comes from The Athletic who state that Villa are ‘soon set to decide whether to loan or sell the forward’, after Ipswich Town agreed a £20million deal to sign Villa winger Jaden Philogene.

Louie Barry urged to join Sunderland

Barry certainly has a busy couple of weeks lying ahead. Right now, a move away from Villa Park looks the best bet for him as he’s been in form this season, and simply sitting on Villa’s bench for the second half of the season would do him no good.

But Villa need to pick the right club, should they send him out on loan. If he leaves then it’s down to whoever pays the asking price. A loan move to Sunderland has been hyped up though.

Journalist Ali Maxwell recently said Sunderland would be an incredible fit for Barry, explaining: “I think the answer is Sunderland. Barry is the closest thing to Jack Clarke that I can really think of. I think he would thrive playing for Sunderland. Sunderland and Louie Barry for me would be an incredible fit.”

If Sunderland can bring in Cannon and replace the goals of Jack Clarke with the goals of Barry, with Le Fee already in the building, Regis Le Bris could have an unstoppable side in the second half of the season.
