Sunderland have already agreed a big wage package to sign Enzo Le Fee on loan from Roma, with a reported £20million obligation to buy in the event of promotion. Now, the Black Cats might have another lucrative summer deal lined up.

Sunderland are clearly making a go of promotion this season, shown by the signing of Enzo Le Fee during this January transfer window, and the fact that none of their star players seem close to leaving.

The latter part of that statement could change before deadline day. But right now, Kyril Louis-Dreyfus is putting his money where his mouth is. It’s reported that Sunderland are paying Le Fee’s Roma wages which are thought to be worth around £69,000-a-week.

Then if Sunderland are promoted, they’re obliged to smashed their transfer record by more than £7million to sign Le Fee on a permanent deal from the Italian giants. Now, going into the final two weeks of the window, Sunderland are being tipped to put another lump of money on the table.

Sunderland ready to make huge Tom Cannon bid

Tom Cannon has recently been linked with a move away from Stoke City where he’s shone on loan this season. He’s scored nine goals in 22 Championship outings so far, and Sunderland and Sheffield United have been heavily linked with a loan swoop for Leicester City striker Cannon.

At first, it looked like Sheffield United were winning the race for Cannon. Now though, Alan Nixon has revealed on Patreon that the Black Cats have made a dramatic late move for the Irishman and that they’re offering more than the Blades too.

It was initially reported that Sheffield United were ready to spend £7million on Cannon. Nixon now says that Sunderland are ready pay a whopping £13million to sign him, plus extras, but at the end of a loan deal next summer. The buy clause would be triggered in the event of promotion, similar to Le Fee’s deal.

Nixon adds that Cannon is waiting on Leicester to accept an offer for him and to then join a new club.

Who is Sunderland’s record signing?

Sunderland’s record arrival remains that of Didier Ndong. The Black Cats paid £13.6million for the midfielder in 2016. Asamoah Gyan reportedly cost Sunderland north of £13million in 2010, making him the second most expensive Sunderland signing ever.

Le Fee potentially joining for £20million would make him by far and away the club’s record signing. Cannon joining then would slot him into 4th behind Ndong and Gyan.

It’s certainly an exciting time to be a Sunderland fan. But there’s still a huge way to go in the race for promotion this season, and a lot of games left to be played as well.
