Sunderland have been closely linked with Chelsea academy gem Harvey Vale in recent weeks. The 21-year-old is poised to leave Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window, with a number of teams now taking a look.

Harvey Vale finally looks set to get himself off the books at Chelsea, and to go out and play some regular first-team football.

The midfielder is one of many to come through the club’s youth ranks but to suffer in terms of game time. Now at 21 years old, Vale has barely any first-team experience to his name, with one full season on loan at Bristol Rovers under is belt.

Sunderland have been linked with Vale during the January transfer window. It’s also been revealed that Chelsea will sell Vale for £0 and instead insert a series of sell-on clauses and add-ons.

So far in this January transfer window, Sunderland have signed Enzo Le Fee on loan from Roma. Recently, it’s been revealed that Sheffield United are set to sign Tom Cannon despite a major Sunderland effort to poach the Leicester City man.

West Brom and more join race for Sunderland target Harvey Vale

Sunderland may also miss out on Vale now too, with reports that a number of Championship clubs have made an enquiry to sign the Englishman. There’s also ongoing interest from overseas too, with Vale certainly becoming hot property in the final weeks of the winter window.

Sky Sports journalist Mark McAdam has revealed on X that Oxford United, QPR, and West Brom have all enquired about signing Vale. Interestingly, former Sunderland manager Tony Mowbray is now the man in charge at The Hawthorns.

McAdams also revealed that there’s fresh interest from Germany and Belgium, with Hannover and Leuven linked. Heerenveen were linked alongside Sunderland previously.

How did Tony Mowbray fare in his first game back at West Brom?

West Brom have handed Mowbray his return to football after his battle with illness, and it’s a return to a club where he spent three years as a manager between 2006 and 2009.

But the 61-year-old suffered defeat in his first game back at the club. West Brom, who currently sit in 7th place of the Championship table, lost 2-0 away at Middlesbrough.

With a couple weeks left of the January transfer window, Mowbray may be desperate to put his own stamp on the side, and Vale could be the ideal player for him.

Mowbray has a knack of developing youngsters, as we saw at Sunderland. If the Baggies poach Vale ahead of Sunderland then it would be a bitter blow for Regis Le Bris’ side.
