Sunderland fans will be worried as Tottenham want key player in ’emergency signing’, he’s ‘perfect’ for Spurs

Sunderland supporters have reason to be concerned because there is now Premier League interest in one of their key players.

Fans will already be disappointed that their side have not won any of their last six games, including the 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United on Friday.

Regis Le Bris’ side are still in the playoff places, so there is no need to panic, but a January transfer offer from Tottenham could soon change that.

Tottenham show interest in Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson

Sunderland’s summer sale of Jack Clarke proves they are willing to sell their best players for the right price.

But supporters will be hoping that the club’s owners at least wait until the end of the season to cash in on another of their top performers.

That’s because Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham are interested in Anthony Patterson ahead of the January window, according to Alan Nixon.

Spurs number one Guglielmo Vicario suffered an ankle injury against Manchester City last month and is expected to be out for several months.

So, the North London club are looking for an ’emergency signing’ to replace him in the short term and provide competition in the long run. Nixon describes Patterson as a ‘perfect fit’ for that role.

This is the Sunderland academy graduate’s third season as the first-choice goalkeeper at the Stadium of Light, where he has developed into one of the best in the Championship.

There are no reports that he wants to leave the club but a move to a Europa League club might be too good to turn down.

What is Anthony Patterson’s transfer value?

Anthony Patterson is worth around £10 million, according to Transfermarkt, but that does not take Sunderland’s promotion push into account.

The Black Cats have struggled lately but they remain in the hunt for promotion to the Premier League and the sale of Patterson would effectively end their chances.

For this reason, and that he is a homegrown player, perhaps sporting director Kristjaan Speakman would ask for as much as £15-20m next month.
