Sunderland have a striker target in their sights ahead of the January transfer window, which opens in a month’s time.
In the last few transfer windows, Sunderland have found themselves wanting a new striker signing.
The club endured striker woes in their first two seasons back in the Championship but in the summer just gone, Kristjaan Speakman finally solved the crisis.
He signed Wilson Isidor on loan from Zenit and then brought in Aaron Connolly on a free transfer, following his Hull City release in the summer.
Isidor has become a fan favourite at Sunderland and already has five goals in 15 Championship games for the Black Cats, whilst Connolly scored his first Sunderland goal in the 1-1 draw at Millwall earlier in November.
Ahead of January, another striker has been added to the Black Cats’ radar, with journalist Pete O’Rourke revealing that Sunderland are keen on Celtic youngster Daniel Cummings.
The 18-year-old has shone for Celtic’s U19s in the UEFA Youth League this season with five goals in as many games, putting a number of Premier League and Championship teams on alert ahead of January.

Sunderland are a ‘good fit’ for Celtic star Daniel Cummings
Speaking to Football League World, pundit Carlton Palmer has discussed Cummings’ later transfer links, backing Sunderland to be the perfect fit for the teenager.
Palmer highlighted Sunderland’s willingness to hand regular first-team minutes to young players and cited the rise of Jack Clarke.
He said: “I think Sunderland would be a good move for him. He wants to go to a club where he is going to play too, so I think the Black Cats could be the favourites to sign him.
“Daniel would be a good fit for the club, when you look at the players that have come on there. Look at Jack Clarke, the way he flourished at Sunderland when given the opportunity.
“I think it could be a good move (to Sunderland), but there are a lot of other clubs who also look interested in his services.”

Regis Le Bris’ January transfer window hint at Sunderland
Speaking recently, Black Cats boss Regis Le Bris discussed Sunderland’s January transfer plans, but hinted that the club could actually be quite quiet.
The Black Cats have a number of players returning from injury in the New Year, including the likes of striker Ahmed Abdullahi who signed for Sunderland on deadline day in the summer.
Le Bris said: “In terms of external recruitment, we have to push our players before we look in January, and we will see if our players are ready or if they need more time.
“Our background is that we believe in the young players and their learning curve, so we shouldn’t just focus on external recruitment.”
Sunderland then might not be on the lookout for another striker in January. But next summer, it could be a different matter with Isidor’s loan expiring, as well as Connolly’s current contract.
Cummings may well have been snapped up by another club come the summer of 2025.
