Sunderland have announced their latest transfer incoming which comes in the form of Nathan Bishop.
Bishop arrives at the club after weeks of speculation which had the deal a terribly kept secret by the end, with many aware it was inevitable.
The fee for the Englishman is officially undisclosed, but we do know that he has put pen to paper on three year deal at the Stadium of Light.
He will arrive to boost the competition in the goalkeeping department for Tony Mowbray ahead of a huge season.
Bishop began his career at Southend United where he made 39 appearances before being take to Old Trafford in 2020.
He spent the 2021-22 season on-loan at League Two’s Mansfield, featuring in every game he helped them reach the play-offs with his 16 clean sheets across all competitions.
Despite originally signing on to be part of the squad at Sunderland, Bishop will ultimately have his eyes on pushing for a starting position due to his ambitions.
He will now beginning training with the Black Cats ahead of the upcoming Championship campaign.
What’s been said about Bishop’s move
With the announcement, Sunderland posted some words on their website from both Bishop and the club’s Sporting Director Kristjaan Speakman.
From Bishop he spoke of his excitement to be at what he called a ‘great club:
“You see the direction that the Club is going, playing young players and allowing them to express themselves and push on in a great league.
“I think that is so exciting, so I want to come in and earn the right to play for such a great team and a great Club.”
The Sporting Director also spoke with high praise and hopes for the keeper:
“Nathan’s a player we have been tracking for some time and we’ve stayed patient to complete this transfer.
“He’s ambitious, positive and focused on improving and trying to earn a place in the starting eleven.
“We want a challenging environment on the grass every day and we believe Nathan can add to what we feel is a really strong group of goalkeepers. “
