Sunderland remain in need of a striker signing this summer.
For yet another transfer window, the aim for Sunderland at the very start was to sign at least one new striker.
But once again, Kristjaan Speakman has fallen short in his efforts, with Sunderland leaving matters late.
There’s little over two weeks before the summer transfer window slams shut on August 30th.
And yet, Sunderland are no closer to signing a new striker then they appeared to be at the start of the summer transfer window.
Though several names have been linked, with Sunderland target Alexandre Mendy a name that continues to be mentioned.
Last month, it was claimed that Mendy was undergoing a Sunderland medical, but that suggestion was quickly played down.
Mendy wants to leave Caen this summer. But Caen though are thought to be playing hardball over Mendy’s exit, commanding a transfer fee close to £4million.
Sunderland appear to be unwilling to match their asking price as things stand.

Michel Graham update on Alexandre Mendy to Sunderland
Mendy, 30, scored 22 goals for Caen in Ligue 2 last season and has had links to Sunderland and Saudi Arabia this summer.
Mendy though is thought to be in favour of a move to the Stadium of Light this summer.
And now, journalist Michael Graham has shared his latest verdict on the matter, backing Sunderland to eventually secure a deal for Mendy.
Graham also plays down suggestions that Mendy will cost any buying club more than £4million, though a true price tag remains unclear.
Graham posted on X on Tuesday morning:
Sunderland may be waiting on one thing before signing Alexandre Mendy
With Mendy currently awaiting a move away from Caen, and with Sunderland still in need of a striker, the stage is set for the Black Cats to bring in the Caen man.
Why they haven’t yet remains to be seen, though the price tag is likely a factor.
For Sunderland and Speakman, it may be a case of selling a player before they can afford a deal for Mendy.
And that player could well be Leicester City target Pierre Ekwah; Le Bris says that Ekwah could leave Sunderland this summer, and that potential sale could fund a deal for Mendy and perhaps one other before August 30th.
Either way, it remains clear after the win vs Cardiff City that Sunderland still need a new striker this summer, and Mendy could be a good fit given his goals record over the past few years.
