Sunderland got off to a perfect start under Regis Le Bris last weekend.
Sunderland beat Cardiff City 2-0 in their opening game of the 2024/25 season.
It’s a perfect start for new manager Regis Le Bris following his arrival at the Stadium of Light this summer.
Goals came from Luke O’Nien and Jack Clarke late on, with Sunderland fans impressed by Dennis Cirkin and several other individuals on the day.
Sunderland play Preston North End in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening.
Whilst Le Bris will remain focused on the upcoming games, behind the scenes there’ll still be a lot of focus on transfers, and on the striker search.
Sporting director Kristjaan Speakman says Sunderland want to sign a new striker this summer but so far the club has fallen short.
Several names have been linked but have either joined other clubs or have seen their links to Sunderland go cold.
Before the Cardiff City game, Le Bris suggested that he wants a new striker at Sunderland this summer.

Regis Le Bris ‘confident’ of Sunderland striker signing this summer
Speaking to the BBC ahead of the trip to Preston, Le Bris gave a fresh update on the club’s ongoing striker search this summer.
Le Bris reiterated the fact that he’s happy with the current set of players, as he did before the Cardiff City win.
But Le Bris, also like he did before Cardiff, suggested that he remains keen to see a new striker arrive on Wearside this summer.
He said: “Obviously, we want to improve the team. We know that if we have the opportunity to do it, we will do it.
“It’s not an easy market. Many, many teams are searching for different positions, especially the striker, so we’ll work hard on it, and I’m confident we will succeed.”

Sunderland striker plans under Regis Le Bris this summer
Recently, Sunderland were linked with Dane Scarlett at Tottenham Hotspur, though he’s since joined Oxford United on loan.
The link though may suggest that Sunderland are considering loan options as well as permanent options in their striker search.
It may also suggest that Sunderland are weighing up more than one striker signing this summer.
A permanent swoop is surely what both Le Bris and Speakman will want, as they’ll want a player who they can mould and develop.
But the opener vs Cardiff and Eliezer Mayenda’s struggles may suggest that Sunderland definitely need a couple of strikers this summer, if they’re to last the pace in the Championship this season.
