Sunderland confirmed their second signing of the summer last week.
Alan Browne arrives on a free transfer after turning down a new contract at Preston North End.
Sunderland had been eager to bring in some experienced to a very young midfield, with Browne set to challenge the likes of Chris Rigg, Dan Neil and Pierre Ekwah for a place in the starting line-up.
The 29-year-old joins Simon Moore as their only two signings since the transfer window opened.
The Black Cats still have over six weeks until deadline day though and will be looking to bring in further additions before their Championship opener against Cardiff City.

Sunderland desperate to sign a ‘senior’ player in one position
With the club so far keeping their business under wraps, journalist Alan Nixon has shared which position they are now prioritising.
When asked on X whether he had heard anything from Sunderland, Nixon wrote: “Want a senior striker… along with a few.”
Where should the Black Cats prioritise?
It’s unclear where the other positions are that Regis Le Bris is hoping to strengthen, but ideally they bring in two new strikers, a centre-back and a new winger.
With Jack Clarke likely to leave, Sunderland can’t rely on the likes of Romaine Mundle, Abdoullah Ba and Jewison Bennette to add goals and assists out wide.
They are also in big trouble if Luke O’Nien or Dan Ballard or absent, so a decent back-up for the defensive pair would also come in handy.
The Black Cats need to loan out a number of younger players and bring in some more experience, with squad depth likely to be important if they are to push for the play-offs.
As for a striker, it will be very difficult for the club to find a goalscorer for a decent fee, but they could take a look at Nathan Broadhead or Tom Cannon, while the likes of Aaron Connolly and Tyrese Campbell are still free agents.
