Sunderland are interested in signing Fenerbahce’s Miguel Crespo.

That’s according to Turkish outlet fotospor, who have reported that the Black Cats have made a loan bid with an option-to-buy for the midfielder.

Born in France to Portuguese parents, Crespo began his career in Portugal with clubs such as Porto, Neves and Braga.

A promising two year spell with Estoril earned him a move to Fenerbahce in September 2021, where he signed a three-year deal with the possibility of a one-year extension.

Crespo scored three goals and provided two assists in 23 appearances in the Turkish Super Lig last season, as well as making a further ten appearances in the Europa League.

Tony Mowbray has previously admitted that he is eager to bring in some cover for the midfield following Corry Evans’ long-term injuries and it looks like he could be eager to bring in Crespo to strengthen his side.

It is unclear what the finances are involved in the offer for the 26-year-old, however it is thought to be attractive to Fenerbahce and they have given him permission to speak to Sunderland.

The Black Cats will have to act fast if they are to bring Crespo to the club before tonight’s deadline, with the Wearside outfit set for a very busy day.

Will Miguel Crespo replace Dan Neil at Sunderland?

They will be hoping Crespo doesn’t take the place of Dan Neil, who has also been linked with a move away this morning.

Liverpool have reportedly sent scouts to watch the 21-year-old this season and are one of a number of Premier League clubs interested in bringing him to the top flight.

Burnley have already seen a loan bid with an obligation to buy turned down, though they are reportedly weighing up another offer later today.
