Sunderland have reached an agreement over the signing of Eliezer Mayenda.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who have reported that the deal is all done and the young striker will join the Black Cats tomorrow.

Mayenda made 16 appearances for Sochaux’s senior side last season but only netted once, while he scored three goals in five games for the B team. The Spain youth international made his senior debut in 2021, becoming Sochaux’s youngest ever senior player at the age of 16 years, 7 months and 10 days.

Sunderland have been heavily linked with the 18-year-old in recent weeks and L’Est Republicain reported last week that the club had made a second offer of just over €1 million (£860k) after they saw an initial bid rejected.

Mayenda was said to have flown over to the Academy of Light earlier this month to have a look around and hold contract discussions before Sochaux decided to block the move due to a potential sale of the French club.

Sunderland now look set to snap up the youth prospect, who will become only Tony Mowbray’s second striker option ahead of their meeting with Ipswich Town next weekend.

Eliezer Mayenda is the fifth arrival that is unlikely to start for Sunderland

Sunderland have signed some extremely promising young players this summer and fans were very excited by their active start to the transfer window.

However, the Black Cats are now almost a week away from their Championship opener and they still haven’t signed a player that will regularly start next season.

Mayenda is the second teenage striker they will have snapped up alongside Luis Semedo – who is yet to make a senior appearance in his career.

The expiration of Amad Diallo and Edouard Michut’s loan spells have left the Wearside outfit worse off than they were back in May and they need to start bringing in more experience if they want to challenge for promotion.
