Edouard Michut is open to joining Leeds United this summer.

That’s according to journalist Dean Jones, who has said the former Sunderland midfielder is ‘open-minded’ about returning to the Championship.

Michut spent last season on loan with the Black Cats as they reached the play-offs and the club were thought to have been eager to make his stay permanent, despite the Frenchman spending the latter stages of the campaign on the bench.

However, Sunderland later confirmed that Michut would be returning to Paris Saint-Germain before the youngster explained why he didn’t sign for the Wearside outfit.

Speaking to L’Equipe, Michut said: “The club offered me the opportunity to stay. It was my decision to leave Sunderland. We didn’t agree on certain contractual points. There were also a few things in the style of play that didn’t suit me”.

Michut has now been told he is surplus to requirements at PSG and Fabrizio Romano has reported that Leeds United are one of a number of clubs interested in signing the 20-year-old.

“Michut would offer something a bit different to Leeds and he is open-minded about the move as it could fit his style of play,” Jones told GIVEMESPORT.

“He could have stayed at Sunderland but he wasn’t getting on the ball enough and at Leeds, a side we have to expect will dominate games, would give him more opportunity to get on the ball and make things happen.

“Leeds do have limitations in terms of their spending in the Championship this season and this could be an astute addition.”

Would Edouard Michut have started for Sunderland next season?

Sunderland fans were left disappointed when Edouard Michut opted against signing for Sunderland permanently, however he would have been left frustrated himself at his lack of game time.

The midfielder found himself limited to cameo appearances towards the end of last season, with the exceptional form of Pierre Ekwah forcing him down the pecking order.

Ekwah, Dan Neil and Abdoullah Ba would all have posed strong competition for Michut, while the arrival of Jobe Bellingham and the emergence of Chris Rigg could have left him out of favour.

Michut was definitely a huge talent and was very effective during his time in the starting line-up, however Sunderland won’t miss him.
