Leeds United ‘just one’ team interested in Wilson Isidor as Sunderland sources share worrying update

Wilson Isidor has only just penned a permanent deal at Sunderland. Already though, there’s rumours of him leaving.

Wilson Isidor has certainly taken well to life in the Championship and to life at Sunderland, with his well-taken goal in the defeat against Leeds United on Monday taking his season tally to 12.

Joining on loan from Zenit in the summer transfer window, Sunderland paid £5million to sign Isidor permanently during the January transfer window, with the Frenchman being one of three signings at the Stadium of Light.

But amid the 24-year-old’s fine form, it’s been rumoured that Leeds United are interested in Isidor.

It’s also been claimed that both Spurs and Crystal Palace had scouts at Elland Road on Monday night with a view to scouting Isidor’s Sunderland teammates. Instead, they left impressed with Isidor the most.

Isidor’s emerging links elsewhere have certainly worried a few Sunderland fans. But given the fact that Isidor has only just become a permanent player, and the fact that he clearly loves playing for the club, the chances of him leaving anytime soon seem slim.

That said, transfer expert Graeme Bailey has told Sunderland AFC News that Isidor leaving in the summer is certainly a possibility, especially if Regis Le Bris’ side don’t earn promotion to the Premier League.

Bailey explained: “Isidor won’t be leaving Sunderland if they go up. No chance. But if they fail to win promotion, you can’t rule it out.”

Whilst Spurs and Palace have been mentioned alongside Isidor, Bailey has hinted that there might be even more top flight interest in the Sunderland favourite, adding: “There is interest from a number of Premier League clubs in him, they are watching and like what he has done. Leeds just one to take an interest.”

When does Wilson Isidor’s Sunderland contract run to?

Sunderland are mostly very good at managing player contracts. Perhaps barring the current situations surrounding Tommy Watson in particular, Kristjaan Speakman is doing a fine job in terms of contracts.

But many might be surprised to know that Isidor only signed a three-and-a-half year contract at Sunderland in January, keeping him at the club until 2028.

Though not a short-term deal, it’s not the longest deal. If a big money offer were to arrive for Isidor in the summer then it might be in Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and Sunderland’s best interest to accept the bid, and reinvest.

That’s the model that Sunderland are undertaking. But whether or not an offer comes in that matches the Black Cats’ valuation of Isidor, whatever that might be, remains to be seen.
