Hull City’s preparations for Sunderland took a bit of a hit this week. The Tigers planned to watch the game against Leeds United on Monday, but didn’t in the end.
Sunderland and Leeds United went head to head at Elland Road on Monday night, in what was a promotion six-pointer for both sides.
Regis Le Bris’ side took the lead through Wilson Isidor and were in front right up until the 78th minute. But a late brace from Pascal Struijk sealed the 2-1 win for Leeds United.
After, Le Bris faced criticism from Sunderland fans for his poor second half changes, with the substitution of Salis Abdul Samed having been scrutinised by fans and pundits alike.
Next up for the Black Cats is a home game against Championship strugglers Hull City on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers have endured a pretty poor season on the whole. They currently sit in 21st place of the Championship table compared to Sunderland in 4th with just one win in their last five in the league, their last result being a 1-1 draw at home to Norwich City.

Hull City boss Ruben Selles admits Sunderland scouting blunder
Hull City appointed Ruben Selles as manager in December 2024. Since he’s overseen 14 games but has just four wins to his name. And speaking to Hull Live ahead his side’s trip to the Stadium of Light, Selles admitted a rather embarrassing blunder for his side.
Selles has revealed that he was going to send two members of his coaching staff to watch Sunderland’s game at Elland Road on Monday night, but for the tickets being sold out. Selles explained: “No, we didn’t [go to Elland Road]. Toby [Loveland] and James [Oliver-Pearce] were ready to go, but we could not get the tickets for some reason.
“We watched the game live on TV, and then we watched it from the tactical camp. We have been in some other [Sunderland] games, so we worked the game as usual. Apparently, it was sold out, or we are too late. I don’t know what it was there, but we were not able to manage to get any tickets.”

Sunderland vs Hull City score prediction shared
Although Hull sit in a poor league position, Sunderland and Le Bris will be very wary of their threat, especially with the Black Cats having been largely poor against some of the league’s strugglers this season.
In recent weeks, Sunderland have drawn against Plymouth Argyle in a game they were leading, and in a game that really highlighted the Black Cats’ inability to see off teams they should be beating with ease.
Sharing his Sunderland and Hull City score prediction ahead of the weekend, though, Championship expert Sam Parkin has predicted a Black Cats win. He said: “Let’s go for a pretty resounding response from Sunderland. I’d give Hull a goal, possibly one, but I think Sunderland will win this one… it will be 3-1.”
The game kicks off at 12:30pm on Saturday afternoon.
