Loaned-out Sunderland man Nectarios Triantis has shone whilst at Hibernian.

Sunderland this season have had differing success with their current crop of loaned-out players.

Timothee Pembele has struggled at Le Havre, Abdoullah Ba is barely being utilised at Dunkerque, and Luis Hemir has still not found his goalscoring touch whilst at Juventus, but there is one man that has come on leaps and bounds in his spell away from Wearside, and that is Nectarios Triantis.

Triantis was handed his first Australia call-up after performing brilliantly for Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership, where he currently finds himself out on loan.

Amid his brilliant form, questions have been raised over his future in Scotland, to which Hibernian boss David Gray gave his perspective on the matter at hand.

After the brilliant performances that Triantis has shown during his time at Edinburgh-based Hibernian, it is no surprise to see Hibernian interested in keeping the Australian in the long term.

After being asked about the midfielder’s future, the Hibs boss gave his view, per Edinburgh News, where he said: “It’s constantly moving all the time just now. Nectar’s obviously contracted to Sunderland, so that’ll be communication between now and the end of the season.

“There’s always communication between the clubs anyway, because we’re looking after the player and trying to develop the player.”

Whilst Gray did not give too much away in his overview of Triantis’ future at the club, the report in Edinburgh News suggested that a ‘number of different methods’ will be explored in attempting to keep him at Hibs, and they would be open to a loan or permanent deal to make that happen.

Kristjaan Speakman may have the short straw in Nectarios Triantis negotiations

It is clear that Triantis has thrived this season under the stewardship of Hibs boss Gray, who would certainly be keen to keep the Australian at the club in the long term.

Unfortunately, from Sunderland’s point of view, they may not have the power in any potential negotiations, as Triantis could favour maintaining his stay in the place where he has played at the peak of his powers, which would be understandable.

Based on the fact that he has very rarely been handed an opportunity at Sunderland, compared to the hero-like status he has earned in Edinburgh, it would be a surprise to see Triantis not want to prolong his time at Hibs.
