Sunderland loanee Timothee Pembele’s loan spell in Ligue 1 has finally turned a corner.

Sunderland have several loanees plying their trade away from Wearside, many of whom were sent over to France.

Unfortunately, Sunderland have had very little success in sending players over to Ligue 1 & 2, as Pierre Ekwah is involved in a top-flight relegation battle, whilst Abdoullah Ba is struggling for game time at Dunkerque.

Timothee Pembele has also been surplus to requirements at Le Havre, having been disposed of at the halfway point of the season, however, it is safe to say that he has now turned his career around in France after what he did at the weekend.

Sunderland loanee Timothee Pembele bags winning goal for Le Havre whilst on loan

Overall, Pembele’s spell at relegation-fighting Le Havre has been disappointing, with the Frenchman only notching 10 starts, which included a two-month stint without being named in the starting side.

Nonetheless, the Sunderland loanee has surely turned around his career after bagging the winning goal in a 3-2 victory against FC Nantes in Ligue 1, with Pembele’s goal falling in the 88th minute to help his side clamber closer towards safety.

This is after his previous game, where Pembele looked solid against Lyon, despite the clash ending as a defeat.

Pembele’s goal saw him tap home from five yards out, but he was in the right place at the right time to send the Stadium Oceane into hysterics with what could be a crucial goal for his side.

Does Timothee Pembele have a future on Wearside

Sunderland discarded of Pembele at the start of the 2024/25 Championship campaign after Le Bris made it clear that he wanted to use a slim-lined squad, which saw the French full-back met with a feat that several troubled young stars were met with, and that was a departure from the club, either permanently or on loan.

However, Pembele’s recent set of performances show that he may have turned a new leaf in his career, and could still offer value to Sunderland.

Bearing in mind that he still just 22-years-old, Pembele still has plenty of his career ahead of him, and has bags of potential, no matter what we saw during his time at Sunderland.

Amid the short supply of full-backs at the club, it would be brilliant to see if Pembele would be handed a lifeline to rejuvenate his Sunderland career next season.
