Amad Diallo’s performance for Manchester United today was one that Sunderland fans were used to watching regularly two seasons ago.
Diallo became a fan favourite at the Stadium of Light in the 2022/23 campaign with 16 goal contributions in 37 league games.
The winger was integral as the Black Cats made the Championship play-offs for the first time since going down from the Premier League in 2017.
He was ultimately unable to lead them to the promised land but will always be remembered as a special player.
Whereas, Man Utd have not always been so convinced of Diallo’s ability – but that has probably changed now.

Amad Diallo shines for Man Utd vs Everton
Amad Diallo has been in and out of United’s team over the past 18 months, with the likes of Antony and Alejandro Garnacho competing for the right-wing spot.
But Amad might have just made the position his own with a man-of-the-match performance against Everton on Sunday.
The 22-year-old provided two assists as Man Utd won 4-0 on new manager Ruben Amorim’s home Premier League debut.
“[Diallo] is really big in talent, but small in size,” Amorim told BBC Sport. “He did a great job but he also has to improve. He is in a great moment.”
Sunderland fans will undoubtedly feel happy for their former player but they will wonder why he hasn’t had more opportunities.
Indeed, Black Cats supporters were calling for Amad to start for United after he scored against Newcastle in May.

Sunderland still miss Amad Diallo
It was never going to be easy but Sunderland have failed to replace Diallo in the past three transfer windows.
Patrick Roberts has been Regis Le Bris’ preferred right winger this season but he has only scored once in 17 appearances.
Especially in the last three matches, against Millwall, West Brom and Sheffield United, Diallo’s creativity would have really helped.

It’s hard to believe that Le Bris’ team would have only scored once in that trio of fixtures if Diallo was running up and down the right side.
