Kristjaan Speakman could very well consider the loan signing of one Premier League talent that is familiar with a Sunderland ace.
The Black Cats will unlikely make several signings in the January transfer window, although certain positions are arguably in need of reinforcements.
Sunderland have been incredibly unlucky this season after racking up several injuries throughout the 2024/25 Championship campaign.
Currently, the likes of Romaine Mundle, Chris Rigg and Tommy Watson are out injured, something that has been difficult for Regis Le Bris to handle with the trio making up over a quarter of the Black Cats’ goals this campaign so far.
Defensively, Sunderland are rather light as well, however, the Black Cats’ options could be bolstered by the loan signing of one Man United full-back that has quite the potential.

Sunderland could sign Man United full-back and Chris Rigg teammate Harry Amass in January
Le Bris’ current options at left-back currently consist of just Dennis Cirkin and Leo Fuhr Hjelde, whilst Luke O’Nien has also been deployed in that position at times this season, and it would certainly be beneficial if they had more options in the area.
As a result, Kristjaan Speakman’s attention could potentially turn towards Man United full-back Harry Amass, who, per The Mirror, is reportedly available for loan, with Ruben Amorim giving the heads-up.
Whilst it is expected that the defender that was described by former Man United boss Erik Ten Hag as a ‘big talent’, per The Guardian, will be of high demand, Sunderland could potentially have an ace up their sleeve with the fact that he has notched 20 matches alongside Black Cats ace Rigg, with the pair playing alongside each other from the 2021/22 season up until the current campaign as part of the England youth set-up.

Regis Le Bris and Black Cats reputation could bode well for young January signings
It does seem very low risk, yet high reward for Sunderland to potentially delve into the young Premier League loan market, and they are set up to bring in some big names as a result of what the Black Cats can offer to these youngsters.
There is no disguising the fact that Le Bris has been phenomenal in his short tenure so far in nurturing young talents and bringing the very best out of them, whilst also handing them game-time. This will be noticed by the Premier League sides, and could very well see Wearside as the perfect destination for youngsters, including Man United with Amass.
The emphasis that Sunderland have put on young signings over the past few years has really paid dividends, and it certainly could continue to help this January window with recruitment.
