Sunderland have been given a top verdict following the victory against Stoke City.
The Black Cats currently find themselves in 4th position, just three points off the summit of the Championship table after their not entirely convincing, yet well-needed 2-1 victory at home against Stoke City.
Sunderland had to rely on 18-year-old Tommy Watson to pull themselves out of the mire, and his top performance delivered a brace to hand the Black Cats all three points.
What initially looked like another fairly plucky Sunderland showing, they still battled to get the win, and have been given plenty of praise from Stoke City manager Narcis Pelach after the performance, and it shows that Regis Le Bris has clearly turned the tide after the recent poor games for the Black Cats.

Sunderland praised by Narcis Pelach after showing attacking ‘presence’ vs Stoke City
Le Bris’ side were knocking on the door until late, with it seemingly looking like they were sailing towards another two points dropped, however Watson delivered at the end to hand Sunderland all three points.
Despite feeling like his side deserved something from the game, Stoke City boss Pelach was full of admiration for Sunderland, as he said, per Sunderland Echo: “But they are a good side as well. In the final third they have presence, they switch the ball fast and they have wingers who can do damage in one-on-one situations.
“We had people there blocking shots, a lot of bodies, but I’m disappointed with the result.”
It was a first win in six games for Sunderland and Le Bris, who have really benefitted recently from the performances by Watson.

Regis Le Bris is to thank for his side showing attacking ‘presence’
Sunderland boss Le Bris has been adamant that his sides’ struggles in the final third, that had seen them notch just one goal in their three games prior to the Stoke City win, were now down to a lack of confidence within his side.
The Black Cats, whilst still not looking fully up to scratch, were certainly much improved against Stoke in the final third, particularly with the abilities that both Watson and Patrick Roberts were putting on display.
Le Bris has clearly instilled plenty of trust in his front three to wade their way through the current sticky patch, and it has paid off this time around for Sunderland, who will hopefully be able to utilise the win to their advantage in their next run of games before the new year.
