Sunderland have a new goal hero in Wilson Isidor. The Black Cats may buy him permanently next year, but if not, then they surely have a clear alternative.
Wilson Isidor has made an instant connection with the Sunderland fans on and off the pitch, following his loan arrival from Zenit during the summer transfer window.
The Frenchman has four goals in 10 Championship appearances so far this season. The Black Cats have the option to buy Isidor from Zenit next summer, with Sunderland reportedly able to sign Isidor for £3.5million.
It’d make him the club’s most expensive signing of the Kyril Louis-Dreyfus era. Next summer could see the Black Cats spend a bit more money than they have in recent years; if the club are promoted then they’ll need to spend, if not then the club could be forced to sell some players, and they’ll obviously need replacing.

Sunderland surely have an eye on Alexandre Mendy at Caen
Isidor arrived somewhat out of the blue this summer. It was later revealed that Isidor’s move to Sunderland took two days to complete.
Before the 24-year-old arrived at the Stadium of Light, Sunderland wanted to sign Alexandre Mendy from Caen.
Mendy to Sunderland became a saga that dragged on for several weeks, with Mendy publicly pushing for a move, but not getting it.
The Black Cats wouldn’t budge on what they valued Mendy and nor would Caen. But the striker has been a hit once again this season.
In 10 Ligue 2 appearances this season, Mendy has scored seven goals. He’s now scored three in his last two games and has become the club’s all-time top scorer in the process, with 71 goals following his move to the club in 2020.

When is Alexandre Mendy out of contract, and will he leave Caen in 2025?
Mendy is currently under contract at Caen until 2026. His future beyond that remains up for debate, though Caen manager Nicolas Seube recently claimed that Mendy is over his failed move to Sunderland.
Should he continue his fine scoring form then transfer interest, be it from Sunderland or any other club, may arise once again in the January or summer transfer window of 2025.
And if Caen can’t come to a new agreement then selling him next summer, at the latest, would certainly make sense from their point of view.
Expect Kristjaan Speakman to definitely be keeping an eye on Mendy’s form and situation at Caen, given the fact that strikers Isidor and Aaron Connolly are technically not Sunderland players beyond this season.
