The Black Cats managed to get themselves back to winning ways at home after a 2-1 victory against a struggling Stoke City side.
Despite initially going down to an early Stoke City goal, Sunderland managed to respond instantly through young prospect Tommy Watson for his first senior goal in Wearside, and that was topped off by a late winner to give Regis Le Bris’ side all three points.
The 18-year-old has been a revelation ever since he came in for the unavailable Romaine Mundle, who is currently sidelined due to injury, and his last two games against Sheffield United and Stoke City have embodied that.
There is no doubt that Watson will be seen as a key part of the future for Sunderland, which is why they should waste no time in committing to that with fresh talks with the teenage star.

Le Bris’ side looked to have undergone a complete revelation in regards to their final third output, and Watson is clearly the decisive figure in that case.
As a result of his performance, it is clear what Sunderland and Kristjaan Speakman’s next steps should be with the youngster, and that is to ensure that he is tied down to a new contract, which is currently set to expire in 2026.
Despite a difficult first couple of starts, recent games have certainly shown what Watson can offer to the side, and that certainly should be met with a new deal for the attacker.

Sunderland’s ability to get the very best out of the younger starts makes it a no-brainer for Speakman to proactively offer Watson a new deal at the Stadium of Light, whether he is tied down to be a key player for years to come for the Black Cats, or from a business perspective to significantly increase his value if Premier League sides were notified of his brilliant form.
There is no doubt that Sunderland have one of the best coaches to get the best out of the youngster as well, with Le Bris’ fruitful experience in coaching the younger players, and it is clear that the ‘terrific’ star will benefit from that.
