Everyone was in agreement over one crucial moment in Sunderland’s victory against Norwich City.
Sunderland’s 2-1 win at the weekend against Norwich City has helped cement Regis Le Bris’ sides’ 4th position in the league as they continue their fight for promotion.
The Black Cats found themselves a goal down, however, showed determination and battled to overturn the one-goal deficit with goals from Dan Ballard and Jobe Bellingham sealing all three points at the Stadium of Light.
It is very easily to look towards the two goal scorers as the crucial players in guiding Le Bris’ side to a win, however, a moment that was almost as important as a goal occurred in the dying embers of the game whilst Sunderland were clinging onto all three points, and there is no doubt that it was ‘so important’ in the context of the game.

Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson praised for game-winning save vs Norwich City
Black Cats shot-stopper Anthony Patterson has been pivotal to Sunderland’s success so far in the 2024/25 Championship campaign, managing seven clean sheets in 17 appearances.
At the weekend, he played a massively important role to ensure that the Black Cats picked up all three points against the Canaries, with a late save against Norwich City’s Ashley Barnes proving to be a key moment in the game.
James Copley on X certainly believed that this moment was crucial after he said on X: “This was so important. He gets a lot of stick does Patto but I rate him.
“Not saying he is perfect but is still young for a goalkeeper.
“Think we take some things for granted, which is strange after the era of Camp and Steele etc.”
It was then backed up as a ‘really smart save’ by David Preece, who went on to suggest that ‘there isn’t a better keeper in the division’.

Black Cats fans tend to take Anthony Patterson for granted after recent performances
When looking at the list of Championship goalkeepers, there is no doubt that Patterson deserves to be in the higher echelons of such a ranking.
Patterson does have the luxury of a top defence in front of him, with the likes of Chris Mepham and Ballard proving to be composed and unbreakable on a consistent basis, but when called upon, as he was in the dying minutes against Norwich City, Patterson can still prove to be crucial.
There have been several saves this season that have certainly won Sunderland games, and there is nothing more you can ask for from a keeper.
