One Sunderland star struggled in the 2-1 defeat away at Watford.

Sunderland suffered a second successive away defeat as they were undone on the road against Watford.

The Black Cats were unable to build on an impressive win against Middlesbrough last weekend and the defining factor was the poor displays in the centre-of-the-park.

Notably, Sunderland captain and midfielder Dan Neil is being spoken about for all the wrong reasons following the defeat to Watford, with him clumsily giving away a late penalty to the hosts, who managed to capitalise and pick up all three points.

Many fans have spoken about Neil’s performance, and some have expressed their feelings that he should not be making such drastic errors as the captain of Regis Le Bris’ side.

There was another poor performance in Sunderland’s midfield, something that was very out of character for the youngster following his bright start to the season.

Regis Le Bris will be worried after poor Jobe Bellingham performance for Sunderland

Le Bris will most certainly be concerned following a disappointing performance courtesy of Sunderland midfielder Jobe Bellingham against Watford.

The Black Cats were a shadow of their former selves on their away trip, and Bellingham’s performance embodied that.

Many have suggested that he was far from his usual self against Watford, as he was described, per Sunderland Echo as: “[He] Looked a touch off his usual pace in the first half and was lucky to get away with one loose pass on the brink of half time.

“Much better in the second.”

Regis Le Bris will be hoping that Watford clash is just a blip

There is no doubt that there are many causes for concern for Le Bris following a performance that had very little to spark any optimism for the French boss.

The performance most certainly is an outlier for Sunderland at this early stage of the season, however Le Brids will be hoping that it isn’t a sign of things to come for his side.

The poor performances in the side clearly had a ripple effect on the entire midfield, with all three of Bellingham, Neil and even Chris Rigg looking far from up to scratch.

Whilst all three of which have been incredible up until this point of the season, Le Bris will most certainly need to put in work to ensure that his side’s performance doesn’t become a recurring theme, particularly when on their travels, as it is a second defeat away from home in the 2024/25 campaign as they followed up their poor defeat against Plymouth Argyle.
