Sunderland may be down after the defeat against Leeds United on Monday, but they’re certainly not out, and Wilson Isidor wants fans to remember that.

It was Wilson Isidor who fired Sunderland ahead in that game, but his Black Cats’ teammates couldn’t hold onto that lead and Wearside hearts were broken in the final moment of the match.

The result leaves Sunderland somewhat adrift in fourth place in the Championship table now, with suggestions that their hopes of automatic promotion are now over.

So, has the four-horse race just lost one of its riders? Or can the Mackems still spring a surprise in the business end of the season? Wilson Isidor has had his say.

Wilson Isidor still believes in Sunderland

Taking to social media after the game on Monday, Isidor sent a rallying cry to the Sunderland faithful suggesting the season isn’t over for the club.

He wrote: “The road is still long… Stay together, we are Sunderland.”

In response, fans instantly appeared to believe in the cause once more, with one fan replying: “That’s the spirt Wilson, it ain’t over until that final whistle. On to Saturday and the rest of the matches. Keep aiming high.”

One supporter said, “Sheffield United and Burnley can be caught,” while another added, “I still believe we get the top two.”

Fans were quick to commend Isidor for his outlook, with one replying, “The exact attitude and spirit we need for the run in,” and another said, “Our passion and togetherness is never in doubt. And you are amazing. Keep banging them in.”

Looking ahead, one Black Cats fan commented: “Time to start smashing teams. We can do it, we are all behind you and the boys… plenty of points left, let’s go for it.”

It’s a sentiment shared by pundits, with Jobi McAnuff suggesting Sunderland can still get promotion despite Leeds looking out of sight at the top.

A phenomenal season for Wilson Isidor

There’s no denying that Isidor has been an incredible find for Sunderland, and his goalscoring returns more than speak for themselves.

He’s now the third-highest goalscorer in the Championship this season behind Josh Maja and Borja Sainz. The former has missed the last seven games, while Sainz has been out suspended and hasn’t scored in his last two games.

With this in mind, there’s every reason to believe that Isidor could end up as the top scorer in the league come the end of the season, given the form he is in right now.

But, beyond the goals, Isidor offers so much more. He works tirelessly for the team; bringing others into the game around him, pressing from the front, tracking back to defend.

Sunderland fans love him, largely because of that work rate and passion he shows, and if the Black Cats are to be successful this season (or next), we’re sure Isidor will be right at the heart of that effort.
