What one Man United player told Corry Evans about Amad Diallo, and why he was ‘gutted’ for former Sunderland ace last season

It’s no surprise that Amad Diallo has achieved great things at Manchester United after showing signs of his potential at Sunderland previously, but it hasn’t been easy.

As one of the best loan signings in recent history for Sunderland, fans have continued to watch Amad Diallo’s progress with great interest since he returned to Old Trafford.

While the Premier League, and indeed some of the Man United followers have been shocked by Diallo’s rise to prominence, Sunderland fans never doubted the young forward.

The idea of Diallo playing in the Championship is now hard to imagine, but there was a time where he had to prove himself at his parent club, with various obstacles to overcome along the way.

Amad Diallo had a ‘frustrating’ return to Man Utd

Former Sunderland captain Corry Evans has been speaking at great length about Diallo in an interview with the Manchester Evening News, and revealed exactly what his brother, Jonny Evans, told him about the former Black Cats star upon his return to Man Utd.

Evans said: “It’s a big jump from doing well in the Championship to doing well in the Premier League, particularly at a club like Man United, and even when he went back to United, Jonny had signed again and I was always asking how he was doing.

“I asked whether he was close to playing. Jonny said, ‘Yeah, he’s done well in pre-season and I’m sure he’ll be in and around it,’ but then he got a bad injury and I was gutted for him because I thought he would have got a few more chances in the first team and you might have seen him kick on.

“It was obviously frustrating for him, coming on the back of the Sunderland high, and I think there was some talk around that January transfer window that he could return to Sunderland.”

Indeed, Diallo went from being the focal point of Sunderland’s attack, to fighting it out in the peripheries at United. But, he’s proven himself over time, and is now almost undroppable for Ruben Amorim.

Enzo Le Fee can be this season’s Diallo for Sunderland

Though they are obviously very different players, Sunderland fans will be hoping the loan signing of Enzo Le Fee can reap similar rewards — and then some — this season.

Diallo became an ‘unstoppable’ force on Wearside, and Le Fee certainly has the ability to become just as influential, and there is no doubt the French midfielder will absolutely terrorise opponents for the remainder of this campaign.

Bringing in Le Fee was an ‘insane’ move by Sunderland, and could potentially be the best signing the Championship has ever seen if he fulfills the promise he has already shown. The way he impacts a game and dictates the creative flow for his team is brilliant, and Le Bris’ side has clearly already improved since he arrived.

The scary thing is Le Fee can get better as he settles in over the next few weeks. Hopefully, he can propel Sunderland to promotion, and then the Black Cats can keep hold of him long-term.
