Sunderland have been advised to bring in a new striker in January if they want to achieve the same success as last year.
Sunderland have struggled up front this season so far, with Mason Burstow not catching fire of yet.
Goals have been hard to come-by with star man Jack Clarke the only player to score more than three all season.
Due to this, the general consensus is that a striker needs to be Tony Mowbray‘s priority in January.
This sentiment has now been shared by pundit Carlton Palmer.

Palmer advises Mowbray to sign a striker
Speaking to Football League World, Palmer explained that up-front is the clear weakness right now at the Stadium of Light.
“Tony Mowbray has stated that Mayenda is back in training and scoring more goals than anybody else. This is great news for Sunderland and their fans.
“They signed four strikers in the summer and not one of them has registered a single goal, as we speak.
“This is an area of the pitch that Sunderland have to solve, and they are hoping Mayenda is the solution.
“I think they still have to go into the January transfer market to bring in a goalscorer if they want to emulate what they did last season or better -you can’t just rely on one person to score you all the goals.
“They’ve scored 27 goals in 16 matches which isn’t too shabby, but you could imagine how much they could push on if they had 20 goal a season man.”
Upon signing Mayenda in the summer, many believed further additions were needed anyway.
Can Mayenda be Sunderland’s number nine?
Signed during the summer’s transfer window, Eliezer Mayenda joined the Black Cats from Sochaux in France.
A former Spanish U17 international, Mayenda is a really exciting prospect who was an absolute steal for Sunderland at just £696k.
For his former side he scored one goal in 16 first team apperances, however at just 18-years-old the idea is he has a long way to go before being the finished product.
Only featuring for 16 minutes in a Sunderland shirt this season, he will be hoping that this improves upon his return from injury.
