Sunderland will still look to add another striker in the summer transfer window.

That’s according to journalist Alan Nixon, who has reported that the Black Cats aren’t done with their attacking reinforcements after welcoming Eliezer Mayenda to the club.

Tony Mowbray has already signed both the Spaniard and Luis Hemir Semedo this summer, however they will look to add a third forward to their ranks – even if Ross Stewart remains on Wearside.

The Scot is currently sidelined after suffering an Achilles injury at the start of the year and could remain out of action until late September.

With the two teenagers currently Sunderland’s only available strikers going into their Championship opener against Ipswich Town, the club will look to bring in more competition in the final month of the transfer window.

Sunderland Nation have recently reported that Stewart has turned down a new contract at the Stadium of Light and could be on his way out, with Southampton keen to sign him despite his injury.

Who could Sunderland sign in the transfer window?

Sunderland haven’t been linked to many experienced strikers this summer, despite their need to add proven competition for Ross Stewart.

Both Hemir and Mayenda lack any real senior experience after joining from Benfica and Sochaux respectively, while the Black Cats could potentially be forced to start someone like Jack Clarke up top.

After failing in their bid to bring Ellis Simms back to Wearside, they could now instead focus on snapping up Everton’s Tom Cannon. The forward enjoyed a brilliant loan spell with Preston North End last season and could be a brilliant addition.

Tony Mowbray’s side are likely to have to fork out a seven-figure fee for the 20-year-old, though that is likely the case for any forward in their hunt for a proven goalscorer.
