Sunderland manager, Tony Mowbray has admitted that he needs to be flexible with his side following the addition of new players.

Following the sale of Ross Stewart, striker options for the Black Cats have become a point of conversation and contention.

With Mason Burstow, Luis Hemir and Nazariy Rusyn all coming in over the summer, Mowbray has decisions to be made.

Burstow impressed against Sheffield Wednesday and has been able to cement his place in the side recently.

With the other two yet to make a start, the Sunderland boss has confirmed he will get them involved.

What has Tony Mowbray said?

With sales and loan players, like Amad Diallo, leaving new players had to come in.

The Black Cats have typically used a 4-2-3-1 formation but Mowbray have said: “At some stage, we have to integrate the new players.

“We have to integrate Nazariy Rusyn at some stage, and with three games in a week, we will give Mason a rest at some point and someone else will get a go.”

With that being said, there could be tactical tweaks to get more players involved.

On that point, the manager said: “We’ll look at different ways of playing as well.

“There will be times where we play with two upfront. We have to keep developing our team so that we can play in different ways.”

Mowbray believed that the forward options were going well, but will take time to bed in.

Discussing this, he said: “Burstow just needs something to break for him, and yet he won the penalty for us. It’s going to come and like with Jack Clarke, when it does, you will see that confidence and belief.

“Once he scores one, I’ve got no doubt that he’s going to go and score a lot for us.”

It has been a good start to the season for Sunderland, even with a young front line, and long may it continue.
